The beginning….

Back in June, I got the bright idea that I was going to start competing in triathlons. This came after running a half marathon in April (after not running much since my high school days, 12 years ago), running a few other races and a few conversations with my boyfriend, Dustin, who is a triathlete and competing in his first Ironman soon.

I bought the bike and the gear and two months later, I was competing in my first triathlon. It was a sprint and when I finished, I not only had a new respect for triathletes but I also thought it was one of the toughest races I had ever competed in. I was slow and at times, it became more of a mental game with myself to continue pushing through the pain. I finished low in my age division which was tough for me because I wanted to do better! I was reminded that this endeavor is going to take patience and perseverance on my part.

Now, I am prepping for my first Olympic triathlon in Key West beginning of December… and I’ve been thinking about what all this will take for me. Training has been able to resume from my action packed schedule from the beginning of the school year – it’s been intense and really great for me to get back into my fitness! I actually ran a half marathon just last weekend with little to no training and felt pretty good after so I think I might be on the right track! As I’m preparing, I’m wanting to find an Ironman to compete in next fall but I keep asking, is a year enough time to prep and be successful at an Ironman? Maybe I’m a little intimidated by the thought but at the end of the day, how cool would it be able to say…. I finished in an Ironman?
